Unlike taking baby gender quizzes and baby calculators, an ultrasound has been proven to more scientifically accurate. You can receive this test right in your physician’s office or in the hospital as part of a check-up evaluation. More often than not, basic ultrasound exams are performed when you’re between your 18th and 20th week of pregnancy.

Limited exam – This is a focused and thorough examination which are administered in order to answer certain questions about the mother, the fetus or both. This test is performed when you visit your doctor with an urgent problem as part of your pregnancy.

Comprehensive exam – Also called the Level II or Level II ultrasound, this is used to provide an in-depth look at the fetus when something wrong is suspected with the baby or the mother.  This includes a detailed examination which is usually administered in response to an abnormality found during the screening test. One of which includes the alpha-fetoprotein screen. If you plan of taking this exam, be ready to face a lengthy test. The test can take approximately 30 minutes or more. This may be caused by the need to image a wide range of different areas of the fetus as well as the consequence of technical difficulties.

As soon-to-be parents, waiting for an official gender confirmation of your baby can seem a tedious and very long wait. More than just hoping for a healthy baby, some couples favor a certain gender. • Share your feelings with someone you trust. He may be your husband, a close family member, your partner or even your health care professional. Sharing your dilemmas with a therapist who specializes in women’s mental health will also be a big help.
• Time will heal the pain. When you are pregnant or even months after you have given birth, you are bound to experience a physical and emotional roller coaster. You are deprived of sleep, you adjust to an entirely new lifestyle, your hormones can get very erratic – all these contribute to disappointment and depression. In time, you will learn accept the gender of your baby.
• Your emotions come and go. Even with all the support that you get from your loved ones, the feeling of disappointment over the gender of your baby may surface every now and then. This is normal. It is important that you avoid pressuring yourself too much.
• Share it. Let people know about what you feel. Talk to women who share the same dilemmas that you do. Discussing and narrating your emotions with people who share the same sentiments with you will be a huge help. You can find several chatrooms and forums online where women can give each other support and tips on a wide range of topics including that of gender disappointment.
• Don’t be scared to get more help. Approximately between 50-75 percent of new moms suffer from baby blues after delivering your baby. Baby blues can manifest in several symptoms: impatience, crying, anxiety and irritability. These roller coaster of emotions can set in about 3-5 weeks after your give birth. These blues can disappear in the long run.
