What is Infertility and What can I do about it?

It is not everyday that people discuss the subject of infertility, not even the couple who try to get pregnant. It is a very touchy and delicate matter that an elaborate definition to the question what is infertility is set in the confines of their bedroom or in a medical clinic. It has not been a general practice for couples to pay their physicians or ob-gyn a regular visit when wanting to get pregnant. Usually, the regular visitation is in order when problems regarding the matter of pregnancy arise.
When a woman fails to conceive within 6 months to a year of unprotected sexual intercourse, there exists a great possibility of infertility on either of the couple. The woman who fails to get pregnant or keep a pregnancy to its fullest has an infertility problem. Infertility is not limited solely to women. The male factor contributes to what is infertility does to a considerable part of the population.
There is an approximately 10% of the world’s population may be having an infertility problem. This explicitly defines that one of every ten people you meet daily could be childless or may not bear children at all. Men and women from varied age bracket could be affected by this condition considering their lifestyle, career, health and social habits and indulgences. What is infertility to people who are obese, suffering from bulimia or anorexia, those engaged in excessive exercises and sports, persons with congenital deficiencies, hormonal imbalances in their reproductive systems and even those who may have acquired the condition from social environment are the immediate candidates enduring infertility as a disease.
A complete examination and diagnoses by medical experts on the couple recommend certain treatment and medication. Nowadays, medical procedures and treatments are available such as Artificial Insemination, IVF (In Vitro Fertilization), ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection), GIFT (Gamete Intrafallopian Transfer) or ZIFT (Zygote Intrafallopian Transfer) and if successful, pregnancy may occur. Still, prevention is the best measure one must engaged upon to avoid excessive medical bills.
